DESIGNER CON 2022
While swiping through Instagram, a particular post caught my attention, DESIGNER CON.
I immediately shared it with the rest of the team members and excitement filled the room. None of us had ever been to a designer con so we made plans to find out what it was all about.
We arrived at the Anaheim convention center a little bit after 12 o’clock to avoid long lines considering the event starting at 10 am. We almost thought we weren’t going to find parking when we approached the convention center, a large “lot full” sign was visible everywhere, as our team started to frown, we approached the parking attendant to see if there was any additional parking left. He cheerfully replied, “of course, were sharing the parking lot with Disneyland.” Now our team began to smile until we saw the $30 dollar price tag.
As we walked toward the main entrance no line was seen which made us almost assume the place was empty but upon entry, we were welcomed by a large wall size poster in bright colors that read, “welcome to designer con”. We were pointed toward 2 double doors as we opened the doors, colors and the excitement of people filled the large space. Vendors filled with iconic toys and figurines based on their original design, and artworks with mythical monsters and creatures that were created in the artists creative visions. One particular artist that caught our eyes was an artist who mashed up animals and objects named Robert Bowen. We purchased his book filled with his mastery of art; he gladly signed our copy of the book. Several booths later we came across different artists with several art styles that were related to aquatic fish life and talked about different artworks and how amazing they were.
After our exiting journey through Designer Con, it was an experience that we had never seen before, and it changed and inspired us to explore different Illustration techniques and styles to represent aquatic art.

PASEDENA COMIC CON 2023
We all heard of the iconic San Diego Comic Con being the largest comic con in the US, but did you know that there was another comic con in Pasadena? Neither did we. Which prompted us to see what this comic con had to offer.
When we first got to the Pasadena Comic con, we were looking for parking and managed to find a parking spot for 1 dollar per hour which is affordable. As soon we got inside the hallway of what seemed like a fairly small location for a Convention center, we were welcomed by the ghostbusters team. Eight men wearing the ghost busters’ outfits and weapons ready to laser blast some ghost. As we pushed the two doors to the Comic Con, it was filled with rows of vendors selling Funko pop toys, vintage Marvel comics and Star Wars Figurines. An array of smaller vendors filled with anime character pins, stickers, and prints. The vendors that caught our attention were 2 artist who were doing aquatic and fish illustrations, we had a lot in common sharing each other's concepts of sea creatures, and personal diving experiences. We purchased some merchandise, stickers, Pins, and a couple of posters.
Because of the smaller scale of this location compared to the much larger ones it was a bit faster to cover the grounds, unless you spend more time talking to Power Ranger cosplayers, they seemed to be the main cosplayer for this year. The overall experience was a delightful one for the city of Pasadena.

MONTEBELLO ART WALK 2/4/23
Two things in life that we are very fond of is art, and culture, so when we saw the flyer for the Montebello art walk titled “keeping the culture alive”, we immediately said we want to support that event.
We were informed that our space was going to be smaller than our usual 10 by 10-foot space so we set up a small 4x6 foot canopy. We quickly set up our pop up and were ready to share our prints with the visitors. Rows of artists filled a patio area of an outdoor plaza. Many were selling jewelry, cakes, T-shirts and a whole lot of art prints and original art. There were very few attendees in comparison to the mass number of vendors, but I later found out that the art walk had just returned to this location. Eventually more and more people began to arrive allowing vendors to find some successes in their sales. We made great connections with fellow artists and overall, it was really cool to have been a part at the Montebello art walk, we anticipate following up with next months.
